DN 101 (T) Beginning Ballet. Two hours.

A studio course in classical ballet at the beginning level.

DN 110 (T) Introduction to Dance Styles. Two hours.

Introduction to ballet, modern, and jazz dance through theory and practice at the beginning level.

DN 121 (T) Elementary Ballet I. Two hours.

Prerequisite: Permission of the instructor.

A studio course in classical ballet at the elementary level. Offered in the fall semester.

DN 122 (T) Elementary Ballet II. Two hours.

Prerequisite: DN 121 or permission of the instructor.

The development of classical theory and practice of ballet, at the elementary level. Offered in the spring semester.

DN 142 World Dance. Two hours.

An exploration of dance as influenced by various cultures, including African, Spanish, Eastern European, and other ethnic dance styles.

DN 200 Special Topics. Three hours.

Prerequisite: Permission of the instructor.

Investigation of dance theories and principles, choreography, and teaching of dance. Offered according to demand.

DN 221 (T) Intermediate Ballet I. Three hours.

Prerequisite: Permission of the instructor.

Development of classical ballet technique, with emphasis on line and performance quality at the intermediate level. Offered in the fall semester.

DN 222 (T) Intermediate Ballet II. Three hours.

Prerequisite: DN 221 or permission of the instructor.

Development of the classical theory and practice of ballet, at the intermediate level. Offered in the spring semester.

DN 240 Choreography I. Three hours.

Prerequisite: DN 140 or permission of the instructor.

Basic exploration of the rhythmic and spatial elements in the development of movement phrases and completed dance studies. Offered in the fall semester.

DN 251 (T) Intermediate Jazz I. Three hours.

Prerequisite: Permission of the instructor.

A studio course in jazz dance technique at the intermediate level.

DN 252 (T) Intermediate Jazz II. Three hours.

Prerequisite: Permission of the instructor.

A studio course in jazz dance technique at a more advanced intermediate level than DN 251.

DN 265 Anatomy for Dance. Three hours.

Prerequisite: Dance major.

Studio/lecture class developing efficient movement patterns through the exploration of human anatomy.

DN 311 (T) Advanced Modern Dance I. Three hours.

Prerequisite: Permission of the instructor.

Development of modern dance performance strengths and qualities, at the advanced level. Offered in the fall semester.

DN 312 (T) Advanced Modern Dance II. Three hours.

Prerequisite: Permission of the instructor.

Development of advanced modern dance technique, preparing the student for professional work. Offered in the spring semester.

A studio course developing techniques for teaching dance styles of ballet, modern, and jazz.

A group choreographic project to include practice in all aspects of production. The project in its final form is shown in performance.

DN 452 (T) Advanced Jazz Dance II. Three hours.

Prerequisite: Permission of the instructor.

Continued development of advanced jazz dance technique preparing the student for professional work.

DN 470 History of Dance I. Three hours.

Prerequisite: Permission of the instructor.

The history of dance from traditional cultures through the Baroque period. Emphasis is on major styles and personalities, and on the interrelationship of the arts. Offered in the fall semester.

DN 471 History of Dance II. Three hours.

Prerequisite: DN 470 or permission of instructor.

The history of dance from Romanticism through the present. Emphasis is on major styles, personalities, and the interrelationship of the arts. Offered in the spring semester.
