Capstone Mentoring Information Systems Society (CMISS). This organization promotes professionalism and diversity within the information systems discipline as well as enhances the quality level of our members' character, overall knowledge, and academic performance through peer-, faculty-, and alumni-led mentoring.
Capstone Student Business League. The Capstone Student Business League is an organization comprising black leadership in the Culverhouse College of Commerce and Business Administration. The purpose of the league is to articulate and serve the interests and needs of black business students at The University of Alabama and to assist and encourage improvement as it relates to black students.
Commerce Associates. The students in this group are selected to serve as ambassadors for the College. Commerce Associates represent the student body at functions such as the Alabama Business Hall of Fame induction, Board of Visitors meetings, and numerous alumni functions.
The Society of Operations Management Students (SOMS) (formerly SIMS). The purpose of this student-run organization is to promote interest in operations management careers. Each semester SOMS provides opportunities for members to meet with representatives of industry and to visit various manufacturing, operations, or distribution centers. The Alabama Finance Association promotes interaction of the academic and business worlds by bringing to campus speakers from around the country. Participation in the association helps students develop leadership skills, in addition to providing them opportunities to exchange ideas with leaders of the financial community.
The Alabama Information Management Society (AIMS) is sponsored by the management information systems program to promote the interaction of the business and academic communities. Participation in the organization heightens students' awareness of the variety of opportunities for employment and internships in the area of information systems management and systems consulting, and aligns students' expectations with the demands of the industry. The organization also provides students the opportunity to obtain relevant IS experience by participating in community services projects.
The Alabama Management Society is sponsored by the management program. Membership is open to all C&BA students. The purpose of the organization is to promote understanding of the different skills required of good managers and to gain insight into entrepreneurship.
Alpha Kappa Psi is the oldest business professional society. It is oriented toward business but not toward a specific discipline. It complements more specialized clubs, such as the American Marketing Association. In addition to professional development, the club is oriented toward education and community service.
The American Marketing Association-Alabama Collegiate Chapter is sponsored by the marketing program for students interested in general marketing management, advertising, marketing research, professional salesmanship, retail management, and international marketing. The AMA furthers the professional development of its members and promotes a closer relationship between members and marketing practitioners.
Delta Sigma Pi is the national professional commerce fraternity. The objectives of the fraternity are to encourage scholarship, professional spirit, good fellowship, and high ethical standards among its members, and to advance the interests of the Culverhouse College of Commerce and Business Administration and of the University.
The American College of Health Care Executives—Student Chapter promotes the interaction of health care management students and practitioners throughout the Southeast.
Rho Epsilon is a national real estate fraternity whose purpose is to promote communication between the academic and business communities. All real estate majors may apply.
Alpha Mu Alpha was established by the American Marketing Association as an honorary student society. The major objective is to recognize the scholarship of undergraduate and graduate marketing students. Students eligible for membership include (1) the top 10 percent of all undergraduate senior marketing students graduating within the academic school year; (2) the top 20 percent of all master's students concentrating in marketing; and (3) all doctoral students majoring in marketing who have completed their coursework and passed their comprehensive examinations.
Beta Alpha Psi is the national honorary accounting fraternity. The purposes of the fraternity are to promote the study of accountancy and to introduce students to the accounting profession. Accounting majors who meet the high scholastic requirements of Beta Alpha Psi and who have completed 6 hours of accounting (AC 310 or above) at The University of Alabama are eligible for membership.
Beta Gamma Sigma is a national honorary for students in AACSB-accredited collegiate schools of business and commerce. Membership in the University of Alabama chapter is offered based upon scholarship, leadership, and character. While juniors in the top 7 percent of their classes may be elected in the last semester of the junior year, the majority of undergraduate members are chosen from the top 10 percent of the senior class. On the graduate level, only the top 20 percent of candidates for the master's degree may be considered for membership, but candidates for the Ph.D. degree who have completed all requirements for that degree may be elected without restriction as to number.
Mu Kappa Tau is the national honor society in the field of marketing. Membership is open to undergraduate and graduate students in marketing who have met the following academic standards: juniors, top 10 percent of the class; seniors, top 20 percent of the class and an overall grade point average of 3.25 or higher; graduate students, overall grade point average of 3.25 or higher.
Omicron Delta Epsilon is an international honor society in the field of economics. The objectives of the society are to confer distinction for high scholastic achievement in economics, to stimulate and promote student interest in all aspects of economics, and to publish an official journal, the American Economist. Membership in the Beta Chapter at The University of Alabama is open to students who meet the national standards of scholarship. Each undergraduate member is selected from the top 35 percent of the class and must maintain better than a "B" average overall and better than a "B" average for all work in economics. Graduate members are similarly elected from the top 35 percent of those majoring in economics and maintaining better than "B" averages.
The Financial Management Association Honor Society is an affiliate of the Financial Management Association. It encourages and rewards scholarship and accomplishment among undergraduate and graduate students of business, finance, and banking. Membership is open to undergraduates who have GPAs of 3.25 or higher or GPAs of 3.25 in finance and related courses and who have completed a minimum of 6 hours of coursework in finance. Graduate students must meet all of the undergraduate requirements but must have GPAs of 3.0 or higher.
