INTERNATIONAL HONORS PROGRAM

Dr. Ronald R. Robel, Director
Office: 121 B. B. Comer Hall

Established by The University of Alabama in 1997, the International Honors Program (IHP) recognizes the importance of international education as preparation for life and work in the 21st Century for highly motivated UA graduates in all divisions of The University of Alabama. Accordingly, the IHP office is located within the Capstone International Center for easy access to the Overseas Study Resource Center and the professional staff of Capstone International. IHP provides the opportunity to combine the acquisition of knowledge of foreign countries and cultures with language study and overseas travel. IHP does not constitute a major or minor; participants must major or minor in established departments. Successful completion of the program will be designated on each student's transcript and diploma as "International Honors" upon graduation.

Admission to IHP requires normal undergraduate admission to The University of Alabama and also an application for acceptance to IHP. An applicant to IHP should have an ACT score of at least 26 and an SAT score of at least 1190. Students who do not quality for immediate admission to the program may apply for admission after completing one semester's coursework with a 3.0 GPA. Each applicant must provide a statement of purpose and at least two letters of recommendation that reveal his or her interest in international study and ability to interact with people from other countries and cultures.

IHP coursework involves 15 hours of courses and foreign language study. Each student must also spend at least one academic semester or two summer terms abroad, engaged in study or research or in an internship/cooperative work experience, for which he or she will receive at least 6 hours' credit. Continuing participation in the program requires a minimum 3.0 GPA.
