Faculty Scholars Program. The Faculty Scholars Program matches 10 sophomore students in the Culverhouse College of Commerce and Business Administration with 10 faculty members, in relationships in which the student assists the professor in research and teaching activities. The 10 students are known as faculty scholars, while participating faculty members are known as faculty mentors.

A separate application is required for the Faculty Scholars Program. Eligibility is limited to students who have completed one year in C&BA. Applications may be obtained in 10 Bidgood Hall or by writing to the Faculty Scholars Program, Culverhouse College of Commerce and Business Administration, Box 870223, Tuscaloosa, AL 35487-0223; toll-free 1-800-828-CNBA.

Each faculty scholar is assigned to work with a faculty mentor for 10 hours each week. The work experience may be quite varied, depending on the interests and backgrounds of the students and faculty members. The following are examples of activities that may be involved: assisting with research, developing computer programs, processing data, assisting in developing teaching materials, assisting with committee work.

Each faculty scholar is paid $625 per semester in the sophomore year. Compensation is increased each year to reflect the faculty scholar's increasing ability and experience. Despite this financial compensation, the primary purpose of the Faculty Scholars Program is to provide highly qualified and motivated students with opportunities to interact with faculty members as apprentices. The program provides an experience not available to the average student. Indeed, at the end of the sophomore year, each faculty scholar will have come to know a faculty member better than most graduating seniors do. The deadline for application to the Faculty Scholars Program is January 15.
