A UA student moves into the new Riverside Community, which opened this fall. |
The University of Alabama kicked off the 2006-07 academic year by welcoming back what is expected to be the largest and brightest student body in the institution's history.
The freshman class includes a record number of 143 National Merit, National Achievement and National Hispanic Scholars. More than 700 freshman have enrolled in Honors College, and the new Riverside Community has opened this fall, marking the first major new residence hall built on campus since 1972.
Total giving and pledges to the University reached an all-time high for the 2005 fiscal year, totaling over $100 million, up over 40% from 2004.
Also, for the fifth consecutive year, U.S. News & World Report has ranked the University of Alabama as one of the nation's top 50 public institutions, and UA is ranked in the top tier of all national universities.
