The Million Dollar Band began as a military band in 1914. The band gained its famous name in 1922 when, as described in the 1948 Alabama football media guide, the band exhibited its fund-raising prowess by soliciting money from merchants to get to a game at Georgia Tech.
Today, the Million Dollar Band, recognized nationally for its colorful and entertaining halftime presentations, is an exciting part of the Crimson Tide spirit and tradition.
