Native American performing artists, craftspeople, and musicians entertain and educate visitors each October at the Moundville Native American Festival. This year's festival is October 4-7.
The festival attracts 16,000 visitors annually to the park, located 13 miles south of Tuscaloosa off state Highway 69. Attractions include arts, crafts and games, music and dance, storytelling, living history re-enactments, an arts market, demonstrations, native foods, children's activities, and live performances.
The festival is a Cultural Olympiad Event and was named a Top 20 Tourism Event by the Alabama Bureau of Tourism & Travel.
Moundville Archaeological Park, known as the "Big Apple of the 14th century," is a 320-acre national historic landmark of more than 20 preserved prehistoric Indian mounds, campgrounds, picnic areas, nature trails, theater, riverbend lodge, and museum of choice artifacts. The park is open daily from 8 a.m.-8 p.m.
