Best-selling Author to Deliver Dinoff Lecture at UA

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Dr. Steven C. Hayes, professor and director of clinical training at the University of Nevada, will deliver the 2014 Michael Dinoff Memorial Lecture Jan. 30 at The University of Alabama.

Hayes’ lecture, “Human Suffering and Human Prosperity: Why Psychological Flexibility Matters,” will begin at 6 p.m. in room 118 of Bibb Graves Hall. Admission is free to the public, and a reception will follow the lecture.

Hayes is an author of 38 books and more than 540 scientific articles. He has developed “Acceptance and Commitment Therapy,” and his book “Get Out of Your Mind and Into Your Life” is a former best-selling self-help book in the United States and was featured in Time Magazine.

Hayes has been president of several scientific societies and has received several national awards, such as the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapy.

The Dinoff Memorial Lecture is given in memory of Dr. Michael Dinoff, who was a professor and director of the University’s Psychological Clinic from 1963 until his death in 1982.
