Due to COVID-19, all University of Alabama Libraries are physically closed until further notice, but the Libraries’ support of the UA community will continue virtually.
UA Libraries is now offering full access to its numerous resources – journals, databases, streaming video, ebooks, librarian assistant, etc. – online for 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Michael Pearce, director of strategic engagement for the Libraries, said one of the featured online offerings is Scout, the Libraries’ discovery interface that provides one-stop shopping for articles, ebooks, streaming video and other resources. Students are prompted to login using their myBama credentials.
If students need help learning how to navigate Scout or the Libraries’ other online resources, the Libraries’ interactive learning modules or video tutorials can assist them.
Librarians are available to help with research, navigation and general questions through the main website’s Ask-A-Librarian feature.
“When you submit a question, 20 people are notified and we are monitoring this service over the weekend,” Pearce said. “Users will receive a reply via email or if they want to speak to someone on the phone they can submit their phone number.”
If seeking help with researching a specific topic, the email addresses of librarians who specialize in various subjects can be found here.
No materials physically checked out will be accepted back at this time. No fines will be assessed, Pearce said. Book rentals can, however, be renewed online here.
Items can be returned when the Libraries reopen.
